Sheding Nature Park

Located southeast to Kenting National Park in Hengchun Town of Pingtung County, Taiwan, Sheding Nature Park owns abundant natural resources making it a wonderful stop for nature lovers. Sheding Nature Park is rich in coral reef valleys, limestone, grasslands, as well as distinctive wind-trimmed trees that are formed by the influence of the raging northeast trade winds.
Covering an area about 180 hectares, Sheding Nature Park and Kenting Forest Recreation Park are two major forest parks within the Kenting National Park that are perfect for visitors to get close to nature. Guided tours and park information are provided at the tourist information centre of Sheding Nature Park for ones looking forward to explore the park in depth. It takes about a 90 minute walk to walk around the park, in which unique limestone caves, stalactites, stalagmites, stone pillars and much other topography can be seen along the way.
Sheding Nature Park provides a perfect habitat for both animals and plants, in which 329 kinds of plants can be found, including aristolochiaceae, and rutaceae that are the major food sources of butterflies. Therefore, about 50 kinds of butterflies can be seen here making the park renowned for butterfly-watching.
On the east side of the park is the sika deer restoration centre of the Kenting National Park, in which specimens of animals of Sheding Nature Park are displayed here. In addition, migratory birds include goshawk, and gray-faced buzzard can be seen from mid September through mid October (05:30 – 06:30) in the park for one to experience an extraordinary Kenting travel.
